"Ten" on the left, "Spray" on the right. My kids, my scrunglies

A sort of portfolio project(?)
In honesty they're just my guys that I use as a sounding board to practice the skills I learnt in university.

Despite my course being for video game concept art, their story concept winds up fitting an animated film or series.

Ten is a listless, overburden and way too stressed out for their age young adult that travels around in a beat up, ladybug red RV. Every fall or so they pick up Spray, a plucky and mostly clueless teenager that shows up on the beach.

Gathering his strange and particular situation, Ten chauffeurs Spray from place to place. Not all of the places seem interesting, but all are novel to this teen.

The journey always ends at a different coast on the other side of the region

My first swing at an interior callout like this. I want to do more space breakdowns but I still want to find a style I like so I can play about with these kinds of images.

This story comes from a love of the how roadtrips shape a story - something about the established homebase always moving with the character. Small and unmoored. Touchable and vital to the characters mobility within the story.

It also comes from a love of the urban fantasy/modern magic/magic realism genres. A touch of magic threaded through things we see in our contemporary lives. I imagine this fact is subtle and baked into socialital infrastructres.

The most blantent show of this latter genre is from Spray himself as transformations threat to crop up if he doesn't stay hydrated

Fishy boyy

Would love to do more this story and idea, but for now I just want to share what I have:

Spray fresh from the ocean, running to a ready Ten

Early morning. Spray looking over the travel plan

Mentioned at the top that I imagine this story as animated, and I have an idea of how I could theoretically go about it. I've also been enteraining the structure of character ask blogs for these guys.

(If you're reading this and that sounded interesting, let me know in the guestbook🗗)

Though for right now I want to find a sketch shorthand to be able to draw these two quickly and clearly so I can draw all the interactions that sit in my head
